So right now, I am in Seoul, South Korea.
In Japan, I had been waiting for almost a month for my work visa to come. I knew it was going to be close. My three month passport visa was almost expired. So figuring that I might have to leave the country, I began to make arrangements with my boss this past Monday. So that day, I returned home and when I checked my passport, I was surprised to find out that my visa expired on that same day. So I panicked. How could I have waited to the last day to even realize that that was the day my passport expired?
Well, I soon found out that it is impossible to book a last minute flight out of the country. So I was stuck. And with nothing I could possibly do (although they thought about putting me on a boat) I just decided to ride things out and enjoy my illegal status. So I had a party (even though it was just me).
The next morning, I woke up bright and early and went with my manager, Yumiko, to the immigration office. And for a brief time, I thought that I would actually be spending Thanksgiving with Mom. The immigration office said that there was nothing they could do, but they were gratious enough to give me a 15 day extention, during which I HAD to leave the country.
So I am in Seoul, South Korea right now, visiting the Japanese Embassy so I can get my work visa in order and be readmitted into Japan. And that mission has been accomplished. I am just killing time until I need to be back at the airport and fly out tonight.
Interesting times.
